The question

Question: A video has 50 views.

The views double every day.

How many views are there after 6 days?

1 Find the start and the factor

The start is 50.

Double means times 2.

So the factor is 2.

start: a = 50
factor: b = 2

2 Write the rule

x is the number of days.

Each day we multiply by 2 again.

So y = 50 × 2ˣ.

y = 50 × 2x

Careful!

Doubling 6 times is times 2, 6 times over.

Not times 12.

Careful: not 50 × 2 × 6 = 600 ✗

3 Put in x = 6

After 6 days, x = 6.

y = 50 × 26

2 to the power 6 is 64.

26 = 64

So we multiply 50 by 64.

= 50 × 64

So it is 3200.

= 3200

4 Check

Let's check by going back: 3200 divided by 2 to the power 6 gives the start, 50.

It works!

3200 ÷ 26 = 50

Let's look back.

First: find the start and the factor.

Then: write the rule.

Then: put in x = 6.

Last: check.

Answer
= 3200
