Step by step

The question

Question: make a circle graph of red 30%, blue 45%, green 25%.

red 30%, blue 45%, green 25%

A circle graph shows the parts of a whole as slices.

The whole circle is 360 degrees.

the whole circle = 360°

1 Each part of 360°

Red is 30% of the circle.

30% is 0.3.

0.3 times 360 is 108°.

= red: 30% × 360 = 0.3 × 360 = 108°

Careful!

A percent is out of 100.

Degrees are out of 360.

30% of the circle is 108°.

Careful: not 30% → 30° ✗

Blue: 45% of 360 is 162°.

= blue: 45% × 360 = 0.45 × 360 = 162°

Green: 25% of 360 is 90°.

= green: 25% × 360 = 0.25 × 360 = 90°

2 Draw the circle graph

We draw a circle and start at the top.

Red: a slice of 108°, going round like a clock.

Then blue, 162°, and so on.

So the slices are red 108°, blue 162° and green 90°.

= red 108°, blue 162°, green 90°

3 Check

Let's check: the slices fill the circle: 108 plus 162 plus 90 is 360.

So the answer is right!

108 + 162 + 90 = 360

Let's look back.

First: each part of 360°.

Then: draw the circle graph.

Last: check.

Answer
= red 108°, blue 162°, green 90°

Your turn

Try this one yourself, then check:

red 20%, blue 20%, green 60%
Show the answer
red 72°, blue 72°, green 216°
