The question

Question: find the volume of a cube with sides 3 cm.

1 Side × side × side

Volume is how much space is inside.

We count the 1 by 1 by 1 cubes that fit.

All the sides of a cube are the same.

So the volume is V = side × side × side.

V = side × side × side

Now put the numbers in: side = 3.

V = 3 × 3 × 3

3 times 3 is 9.

That is one layer of 9 cubes.

So V = 9 × 3: 3 layers of 9.

V = 9 × 3

9 times 3 is 27.

We count cubes, so the unit is cm³.

So the volume is 27 cm³.

V = 27 cm3
Answer
V = 27 cm3

Your turn
