Step by step

The question

Question: find the perimeter of a trapezoid with parallel sides 7 and 15 and slanted sides 6 and 5.

1 Add all the sides

A trapezoid has one pair of parallel sides: the top and the bottom.

In some countries it is called a trapezium.

The perimeter is the way all around the edge.

We add every side.

Walk around and add: top, right side, bottom, left side: 7 + 5 + 15 + 6.

P = 7 + 5 + 15 + 6

7 plus 5 is 12.

P = 12 + 15 + 6

12 plus 15 is 27.

P = 27 + 6

27 plus 6 is 33.

So the perimeter is 33.

P = 33

2 Check

Let's check: add them in another order.

The two parallel sides, then the two slanted sides.

7 + 15 + 6 + 5 = 22 + 11 = 33

We get 33 again.

So the perimeter is right!

Let's look back.

First: add all the sides.

Last: check.

Answer
P = 33
