Step by step

The question

Question: B is south of A: find the bearing of B from A.

1 Draw the north line

A bearing gives a direction as an angle.

It starts at the north line.

It turns clockwise, the way a clock turns.

It is written with 3 figures.

2 Measure clockwise

From north, turning clockwise to south: 180°.

South is half a turn from north: two right angles, 90 plus 90.

So 180°.

With 3 figures: 180°.

bearing = 90° + 90° = 180° → 180°

Careful!

Turn clockwise, the way a clock turns.

Turning the other way gives 360 minus 180: 180°, the wrong angle.

Careful: not 180° ✗

3 Check

Let's check: measured from north, clockwise, with 3 figures.

So it is right!

180°: from north, clockwise, 3 figures

Let's look back.

First: draw the north line.

Then: measure clockwise.

Last: check.

Answer
bearing = 90° + 90° = 180° → 180°
